Make Your Own Mini Greenhouse
If you have limited space and a green thumb, try this simple DIY to make your own miniature greenhouse! All you have to do is remove the bottom of a large plastic bottle (preferably a gallon jug), unscrew the cap, place over a seedling, and you have a greenhouse! Although simple, it is surprisingly effective at maintaining optimal temperatures for growing plants.

DOT HWYS Oahu’s Q2 2018 Adopt-A-Highway Champions
Congratulations to the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & IMF 1st Class Association, HDOT Highways, Oahu District’s Second Quarter 2018 Adopt-A-Highway Champions! Their route is from Kamehameha Highway (from the H1 underpass) to Honomanu Street.
Eroded Slope Repair
As part of the Permanent Erosion Control Program, DOT-HWYS completed permanent repairs at thirteen sites in 2017, in addition to fourteen sites completed in 2016. These erosion repair projects occurred along the H-1 and H-2 freeways and Kamehameha and Kalanianaole Highways, and were managed by DOT-HWYS’ Salt Lake and Lower Halawa field offices.
Construction BMP Tip: Material Storage
During construction, storing various types of material is needed and proper handling is required to prevent and reduce storm water pollution. Establishing practices and procedures for handling and storing construction materials through the life of a project can minimize the potential for pollutants coming into contact with storm water.

Downspout Filters
As part of the Action Plan for Retrofitting Structural BMPs DOT-HWYS recently installed downspout filters under the H-1 viaduct at the Pearl City Baseyard. These downspout filters capture trash and sediment and also contain an oil boom that reduces oil and grease from roadway storm water runoff.
