Between the shores of Hawaii and the coasts of California lies a pooling of plastic waste spreading over 600,000 square miles across the Pacific Ocean. This is known as the “Pacific Garbage Patch.” This floating pool of waste contains at least 79,000 tons of materials that are toxic to our waters and the marine life residing within them.
This Halloween, “litter-ally” be the change you want to see by making a green statement with your very own do-it-yourself Pacific Garbage Patch costume made from trash and other household items. All you need is jeans, a blue shirt, and adhesive materials to attach all the plastic waste – bottles, bags, cutlery, etc. – you can find to your ensemble. Just be sure all that rubbish finds its way to the recycling bin after the holiday!
